We are the electricity Distribution Network Operator (DNO) responsible for delivering power to over 3.8 million homes and businesses across central southern England and the north of Scotland. We serve some of the most diverse and unique geographies across the UK, and keep customers and communities connected whilst developing the flexible electricity network vital to achieving net zero.

Our skilled teams are based right across the regions we serve, from the bustle of West London to the smallest villages in the Highlands and Islands of Scotland.  They are supported by engineering and customer service teams based in major offices and depots in centres like Reading, Portsmouth, Perth and Inverness.

The Embedded Capacity Register (ECR) has been developed to provide better information to electricity network stakeholders on connected resources and network requirements. Each Distribution Network Operator (DNO) will host a register which will provide accessible information at a local and national level. The register uses a format agreed through the Energy Networks Association's Open Networks project, an industry initiative aimed at transforming the operation of energy networks and delivering a smart grid.

The Embedded Capacity Register (ECR) has been developed to provide better information to electricity network stakeholders on connected resources and network requirements. Each Distribution Network Operator (DNO) will host a register which will provide accessible information at a local and national level. The register uses a format agreed through the Energy Networks Association's Open Networks project, an industry initiative aimed at transforming the operation of energy networks and delivering a smart grid. 

Our register provides information on generation and storage resources (>=50kW) that are connected, or accepted to connect, to the electricity distribution networks owned and operated by us and it will be updated on a monthly basis. The register also includes information on the flexibility services that are being provided by connected resources, assisting to control or schedule demand and/or generation to reduce network constraints.

Register Definitions and explanations within the Embedded Capacity Register.
For each site that meets the criteria to be included in its Embedded Capacity Register, each DNO/IDNO Party shall use reasonable endeavours to populate all relevant fields in the Embedded Capacity Register. Where the DNO/IDNO Party does not hold data for a specific field for a specific site, then the DNO/IDNO Party will populate the relevant field with the words ‘data not available’. If a specific field is not applicable to a specific site, then the DNO/IDNO Party will populate the relevant field with the words ‘data not applicable’.

This session was recorded to ensure that all of our users have an opportunity to engage with our data surgery. This session had a focus on bringing awareness to the ECR and performing a deep dive into this data with clarity on future enhancements.
